Cieza explodes in a thousand colors

The municipality exhibits at Fitur the spectacle of the flowering of the fruit trees, which will begin in less than a month / There is also room for the adventure that involves the descent of the famous Almadenes Canyon

CLAUDIO CABALLERO The municipality of Cieza is attending Fitur once again this year to promote its tourist attractions and charms. The stand of the Region of Murcia, which displays the attractions of the municipality, will be located in Pavilion 7 and occupies an area of 373 square metres on the ground floor, which is 62 metres more than last year. Cieza is promoting, in its inland tourism offer, its landscape and natural charms, as well as its cultural and leisure attractions. Museums, routes, the Almadenes Canyon, Medina Siyâsa, the cave paintings of the Barranco de los Grajos, the Sima de la Serreta Cave and rural accommodation are promoted.

At Fitur the spectacle of the Flowering in Cieza will have a special role. In less than a month, the spectacle will be on in the town. The fields will explode with a combination of colours whose sight is the best of therapies. The flowering of the fruit trees will spread over thousands of hectares like a carpet of different shades of pink, fuchsia, lilac and white.

The unrivalled panoramic view will be complemented by a multitude of fragrances that will introduce visitors to an environment close to heaven. And to make it easier for all those who decide to visit the town, once again this year, the Department of Tourism and the Cieza City Council have scheduled a series of activities and guided tours that will take place over the next few months.

Hiking, car and horse riding routes through the most significant places; tapas in bars and restaurants; water rafting down the Segura River; the 'Pasa la Gorra' Street Theatre Show; the Tapas Route (in March) and the Flowering Menus (local restaurants offer commemorative dishes that must contain Ciezano peaches) are some of these proposals aimed at all audiences.

And for photography enthusiasts, the City Council has scheduled a competition in which participants will have to present works related to the flowering, with those snapshots that are contextualized in emblematic places of the municipality being especially valued. This year, and to encourage participation, the Department of Tourism has increased the amount of the first prize, which will be one thousand euros for the winner.

Initiative: A centre to learn about the Segura Canyon
The Almadenes Interpretation Centre will be the first building in Spain that, in addition to being self-sufficient, will be able to generate energy surpluses for other uses. It will be the point of reference for the Almadenes Canyon, where visitors will be able to learn about this incomparable site and even study it. The building will be equipped with all the mechanisms capable of providing the entire facility with the necessary electric light to operate by means of photovoltaic panels, as well as those that store water from rain.

The visual impact on the surroundings will also be minimal, since after its completion, the entire infrastructure will be covered with a green blanket that will imitate the surrounding vegetation. Inside, the centre will have a cafeteria-restaurant, multimedia rooms and a large viewing platform on the roof from where the Almadenes Canyon in Cieza can be seen. The set of actions within the so-called Almadenes Gorge Consortium, includes the adaptation of paths inside the Canyon and climbing areas. In parallel, other private initiatives in Cieza are proceeding with the construction of tourist infrastructures such as the development of the Losares Campsite, very close to the site.
